After New Zealand and Mexico having entered the Madrid System at the end of last year the number of member states now has expanded once again. India – with effect as from July 8, 2013 – and Ruanda (as from August 17, 2013) acceded to the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks. India, however, has declared reservation that it can be designated only for newly applied International Registrations. Therefore, a subsequent designation of already existing Registrations to India is not possible.

On October 16, 2013, Tunisia will return to the fold of the Madrid system to be the 92. member state as it had already been a member of the Madrid System until 1988.
